On Film is excited to present the Fall 2016 program “Queer Longings: Narratives of Desire,” featuring the works of Jenni Olson as well as Dani Leventhal in collaboration with Jared Buckhiester.

The series is concerned with the (im)possibilities of articulating queer desire. Elements of autobiography, historical narratives, and an exploration of space and time all contribute to a tension between fact and fantasy, poetically blurring the lines of documentary and fiction. Although very different, together the two films present a compelling program that reflects on nostalgia, intimacy, and loneliness. Professor Jennifer Creech and a few On Film members will be available for a discussion and a Q&ampA after the screening.

Program:

The Royal Road (Jenni Olson, 2015, 65 min., shot in 16mm, projected in DCP)

Hard as Opal (Dani Leventhal and Jared Buckhiester, 2015, 29. min., HD video)

Sponsored by: University of Rochester Film and Media Studies Program, Graduate Program in Visual and Cultural Studies, University of Rochester Department of History, Graduate Student Association
