J.G.'s Last Letter

Letter from James G. Averell to Emily Sibley Watson, September 5, 1904

1904-09-05

In the last letter surviving from J.G. Averell to his mother, he writes of polo matches.  He was invited to play with the Albany team in a match in Saratoga Springs; plans to play in the Rochester-Toronto game on September 20th (Rochester won, with J.G. making 2 of the team's 5 goals); and lost to Myopia playing with the Dedham Club ("I would give a good deal to beat them just once").

Poignantly, he looks forward to seeing his mother again: "It begins to seem as if you were really coming home and soon as I shant be able to write more than once more."
